If you’re like me, you have a lot of plugins which you’ve accumulated over the years. However, you probably don’t use all of them all the time. In fact, some of them you probably don’t use at all except for specific projects when you really need them. But you keep them all loaded, just in case you need them.
The problem is that having a lot of loaded plugins makes C4D slower to load, utilises memory you might need for your scene, and maybe makes Cinema less stable than it normally is. Ideally, we’d all like to be able to load and unload plugins from within C4D itself, but the plugin architecture apparently makes that impossible. So if you want to ensure that Cinema will (or will not) load a particular plugin, you have to exit Cinema then either rename the plugin files so that Cinema will or will not recognise the plugin, or move the folder containing the plugin into or out of the plugins folder. Either way, it’s time consuming and boring, so you probably don’t do it... which either means that you have a lot of usually unneeded plugins loaded, or perhaps you never load the plugins you may have paid good money for.
Plugin Boss changes that. It can’t get around the problem of having to quit and restart Cinema but it does make the activation and deactivation of plugins easier.

You can use Plugin Boss if you have any version of C4D from R8 up to and including R12.
To install Plugin Boss, run the program setup.exe. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

You can choose where to install the software but, other than that, there isn't anything else to decide.
Notes for users of version 1.1.0.0 (released January 2010)

The only major change in functionality in this version is to provide compatibility with Cinema 4D R12.
In addition, there are some minor tweaks and bug fixes. If you aren't using C4D R12 yet, you should
still upgrade your version of Plugin Boss for this reason.
The format of the plugin presets remains unchanged. As in previous versions, Plugin Boss will save presets by
default into its own user data folder with the name:
/users/<yourname>/appdata/roaming/microbion software/plugin boss/1.2.0.0
As before, if you have existing presets you can copy them into this folder for convenience (but you don't have
to - they will remain accessible wherever you stored them).
Note for users of the first version of Plugin Boss

The format of preset files in this latest version is unchanged, so if you created plugin
preset files for the application you don't have to re-create them for this version.
However, the original version of Plugin Boss stored them in a user data folder which would
have a path similar to: /users/<yourname>/appdata/roaming/microbion software/plugin boss/1.0.1.0.
This version has its own data folder which only differs from the previous version by the version
string at the end - it will read /users.../plugin boss/1.1.0.0 instead.
You may want to copy any existing presets into the new data folder for convenience.
